COVID-19 Update: April 28

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,

Congratulations to all of you on successful completion of the historic Spring 2020 semester! I am always amazed by how strongly and how well the JSU family comes together during times of adversity, and I am so proud of your hard work, flexibility, and determination.

As we wrap up final exams, I am sure you have questions about this semester’s Pass/No Credit grading option. The university has been finalizing the policy and putting the request and advising process into place. Students will receive a separate email on Thursday, April 30, with instructions for completing the Pass/No Credit Request Form that will be available on Friday, May 1, at 4 p.m., after grades are posted that day.

Students should also expect a separate email later this week outlining the distribution of housing/meal plan credits to those who qualify. Additionally, information is also forthcoming on the CARES Act funding from the federal government. Look for an email about this program sometime next week.

For our graduating students, I have some exciting news. The Commencement Committee has finalized dates and times for our spring and summer ceremonies, as follows:

July 31, 2020

  • 10 a.m. – Summer Undergraduate Ceremony
  • 2 p.m. – Spring and Summer Graduate Ceremony

August 1, 2020

  • 9 a.m. – Spring Undergraduate Ceremony for the School of Business and Industry and School of Science
  • 1 p.m. – Spring Undergraduate Ceremony for the School of Arts and Humanities and School of Human Services and Social Sciences
  • 5 p.m. – Spring Undergraduate Ceremony for School of Education and School of Health Professions and Wellness

More Information on Commencement

Lastly, Governor Kay Ivey announced today that the State’s current “Stay at Home” order will expire on Thursday, April 30, at 5 p.m., and will be replaced with a “Safer at Home” order. The JSU administration is reviewing this information and will let employees know as soon as possible how it will affect operations. The university’s plans to teach all classes online for Summer 2020 have not changed.

In closing, I would like to thank each of you for your patience and adaptability this semester. The JSU family has demonstrated, once again, that there is nothing we cannot accomplish together.

Thank you,
Dr. Don C. Killingsworth, Jr.
Acting President
