Faculty Development:

Whether faculty members are teaching in the traditional classroom or online, the Faculty Commons assists them in planning and implementing the latest, most engaging, student-centered educational strategies and associated technologies. Faculty development opportunities will be custom-built to suit the needs of the JSU faculty.  The Faculty Commons works collaboratively with faculty and administration to support all pedagogical concerns.

Quality Enhancement Plan:

One mission of the Faculty Commons is to support our faculty throughout the five year Quality Enhancement Plan required by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.  Through Faculty Mentor training, the Faculty Commons will provide the faculty development necessary for our QEP study.  Ms. Gena Christopher, Director of the Faculty Commons, is also the Co-Chair of the QEP, responsible for the oversight of the implementation of the QEP.

Mid-Semester Evaluations:

Faculty may request the Faculty Commons staff to proctor mid-semester evaluations for the purpose of self-evaluation and to determine the students' perspectives on their own learning and the methods used by the teacher.

New Faculty Orientation:

The Faculty Commons is responsible for New Faculty Orientation, providing support through each faculty member's first year on campus.

REAL Beginnings: Providing Relevant, Engaging, Active, Learning Experiences for First-Time Students:

This year's theme for the Faculty Commons deals with the First-Time Student experience and the ways that teachers can better support students through these experiences.
