A. Barry Cox, Ph.D.,
University of South Carolina, Professor and Director, Institute for
Emergency Preparedness. Dr. Cox received his Ph.D. in chemistry and
completed a Post Doctoral Appointment with the Atomic Energy Commission
at The Savannah River Laboratory. His current field of interest
includes safety and environmental health issues and hazardous materials
management.

Dr. Bill Lowe is a
full-time assistant professor of emergency management at JSU.
Additionally, Dr. Lowe has over 28 years of emergency management and
public safety experience as a battalion chief with a large Georgia
fire department where he managed shift operations for 100 firefighters
and paramedics. The department protects 275,000 citizens and handles
28,000 emergency alarms each year. <>
Dr. Lowe has two
BS degrees: management and fire protection engineering, a Master of
Business Administration, Graduate Certificate in Disaster Science, a
Doctorate in Human Resource Management, a Post-Doctoral Specialization
in Marketing Management, and is a graduate of the Department of
Homeland Security's National Fire Academy's four-year Executive Fire
Officer (EFO) fellowship program. He regularly publish articles in
public safety and emergency management magazines such as Fire
Engineering, Firehouse, Fire Chief, EMS Magazine, Journal of Emergency Management,
etc., and present training sessions at national public safety and
emergency management conferences including EMS Expo, Fire Department Instructors Conference
(FDIC), Fire Rescue East, and the International Association of
Emergency Managers.

Dr. Jeff Ryan- jryan@jsu.edu
Dr. Ryan is originally from upstate New York. He went to school
at Syracuse University where he graduated with Bachelor’s degrees in
entomology and forestry. Shortly after graduation, he joined the US
Army and was assigned to Fort Detrick, Maryland where he worked as a
research technician for 5 years. In that time, he completed a Master’s
degree in Biomedical Sciences at Hood College, Frederick, MD. He was
then commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the US Army Chemical Corps. As
a Chemical Officer, he performed in a number of assignments in Germany
and Fort Meade, MD. Following this, he branch transferred to the
Medical Service Corps and served the remainder of his career as a
medical entomologist. During that time, he had several commands at Fort
Bragg, NC, completed a PhD program at North Carolina State University
and was a diagnostics developer at the Walter Reed Army Institute of
Research. Dr. Ryan retired as a Lieutenant Colonel with almost 23 years
of service. Before coming to JSU, Dr. Ryan worked for a biotechnology
company, where he led their Biothreat and Government business programs.

Jane Kushma, Ph.D., University of Texas at Arlington, has been a member
of the Institute for Emergency Preparedness faculty since 2002. She
holds the rank of Associate Professor. Dr. Kushma received her Ph.D. in
Urban Policy and Public Administration and completed her dissertation
research on emergency management policy implementation. She has
practiced and taught in the field of emergency management for more than
25 years. Current research interests include emergency management
policy, disaster management, nonprofit organizations and volunteer
management, and service learning. Dr. Kushma has served in a variety of
leadership positions with various nonprofit boards, organizations, and
task forces.
