New Student Merit-Based Scholarships

2019-20 Merit Scholarships are awarded to recognize incoming students who exhibit particularly outstanding academic achievements. There is NO separate application for this scholarship program. Students who have been admitted to JSU will automatically be considered if they meet the minimum ACT/SAT test scores and 11th grade GPA to be eligible for each tier.  Please note official test scores and transcripts through the junior year MUST be on file to be considered.  For more information please contact the Scholarships Office.

Students who do not qualify for one of the above scholarships may be able to receive a Gamecock Grant Scholarship.  The Gamecock Grant Scholarship pays $1,000 annually for up to four years based on renewal criteria.

High School GPA is the GPA reported by the high school on the official transcript through the end of the student's junior year.

All automatic-consideration merit scholarships are subject to defined renewal criteria. Student must maintain a JSU GPA as stated in the offer letter, AND must complete/pass 30 credit hours of course work per academic year to remain eligible for renewal. JSU-funded scholarships are awarded to cover base tuition costs at Jacksonville State University. Students are responsible for payment of fees, distance learning, and other costs outside of base tuition, which is currently $324.00 per credit hour.  Excess scholarship funds are not refundable, and cannot be carried over to a subsequent semester.

The 2019-20 Scholarship Applications are available now in Scholarship Manager.  Applications will be open from October 1, 2018 until March 1, 2019.  Scholarship Manager appears as a link in MyJSU under the "Student Links" section.

JSU Competitive Scholarships

JSU offers competitive academic scholarships each year.   These applications are available in Scholarship Manager accessed via the student's MyJSU portal.  The student must be accepted as a First-Time Freshman and complete the application by March 1, 2019 to qualify for consideration.  First-Time Freshman Competitive Scholarships do not stack with other merit-based scholarships.

JSU Honors

A student with a 30+ ACT or 1360+ SAT, and a 3.5+ GPA (through the 11th grade) may apply for the JSU Honors Scholarship.  This scholarship will require an additional application that must be submitted by March 1, 2019.  JSU Honors recipients will receive:

  • 16 hours in tuition per Fall & Spring semester, $41,472 total for four years
  • Campus Housing ($1,800.00 base rate per semester)
  • Campus Meal Plan
  • Total 4-year value:  $71,672.00

JSU Leadership

A student with a 20-25 ACT or 1030-1200 SAT, and a 3.0+ GPA (through the 11th grade) may apply for the JSU Leadership Scholarship.  This scholarship will require an additional application that must be submitted by March 1, 2019.  It pays $4,000.00 annually, $16,000.00 over 4 years.  Must be involved in two or more JSU-based organizations to maintain scholarship.
