Coaching

JSU’s Coaching minor is available for students majoring in non-teaching degree fields and includes eight hours of coursework related to methods and principles of coaching, safety and first aid, and conditioning principles. the minor also requires seven hours of coaching seminar classes and the completion of a coaching practicum.

Community Health

The Community Health minor offers professional career preparation (non-education fields) with a focus on issues such as habits, attitudes, and knowledge concerning health in society. You will analyze the personal, societal, community and environmental factors contributing to community health and disease, explore the foundations of health science, education and promotion, not only in the general population but within special groups (such as the aged).

Exercise Science and Wellness

This minor is available for students who are pursuing a non-teaching degree and centers around the concepts of wellness, kinesiology, exercise physiology and biomechanics. Students in this minor may also explore athletic training, conditioning, fitness testing and techniques to meet the electives requirements.

Sport Management

A minor in Sport Management is available for non-teaching degree fields and cannot be taken in conjunction with a major in Recreational Leadership. This minor explores many areas of sport management including legal and ethical aspects of sport management and recreation, contemporary issues in sport, and marketing, public relations, and promotion and event planning in sport and recreation.

Recreational Leadership

This minor explores the foundations of sport management and recreation, including group and outdoor activities, youth sports programs, and the organization and administration of camps and outdoor education. Students pursuing this minor also choose from electives in specific outdoor recreational pursuits such as hiking, biking, skiing and canoeing.
