Scale Back Alabama Kicks Off January 20-23

01/16/2015

Are you struggling with the need to lose a few pounds? Are you taking blood pressure medicine, but know you could probably stop taking it with a better diet? Do you have a family history of heart disease and understand that by being overweight you're increasing your own risk? If so, you should consider participating in Scale Back Alabama!

Starting in January, Jacksonville State University will join hundreds of other organizations in a statewide weight-loss program called “Scale Back Alabama.” The 10-week program is designed to capitalize on those New Year’s resolutions and create a fun atmosphere for weight loss and physical activity.

You’re invited to find a teammate and sign up during the week of Jan. 20-23.

Chance to win cash prizes!

The goal of the contest is to eat less and move more, losing at least one pound per week. Those who are successful in meeting the goal are eligible for cash prizes:

Prizes awarded April 24:

Individuals who lose at least 10 pounds are entered into a drawing for 40 prizes of $100 each. Teams on which both members lose at least 10 pounds are entered into a drawing for the following grand prizes:

• Three prizes of $1,000 each ($2,000 per team)
• Three prizes of $500 each ($1,000 per team)
• Three prizes of $250 each ($500 per team)

Individuals who utilize the free American Heart Association Fitness Tracker during the program will be placed in a drawing on March 2 for one of 10 prizes of $50 each.

To participate:

Register on the Scale Back Alabama website and then do your initial weigh-in at the Wellness Center, Room 204, Pete Mathews Coliseum. Weigh-in hours are 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. daily, Jan. 20-23. All weights will be kept confidential.
