COVID-19 Update: April 7, 2021
Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,
Last week we administered 699 doses of the Moderna vaccine to members of our JSU community. We were very pleased with the outcome of the clinics and thankful for all the support received from many different organizations. It was a community effort!
We will be getting an allocation for 700 second doses, which will be given to all of you who participated in the first round of shots last week. As before, we will hold our clinics on a Monday and Thursday (April 26th and 29th). To receive your second dose come to the Kennamer Gym on the same day and time slot that you did for the first dose.
We strongly encourage everyone to get vaccinated for COVID-19. It is the single most important and effective way to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The vaccines that are available are both safe and effective. Governor Kay Ivey has authorized all Alabamians aged 16 and over to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
We do not know if the state will provide us with more vaccine beyond our second dose allocation set for the end of this month. However, there are many places where you can get the vaccine now. Visit this vaccinefinder.org to find a place here locally where you can get the COVID-19 vaccine.
As many of you know, Governor Ivey will allow the statewide mandatory mask order to expire on April 9th. The expiration of the Governor’s order will not change what we do at JSU. We will continue to mandate the use of face coverings/masks on our campus until further notice. We trust that you understand this measure effectively mitigates the spread of COVID-19. However, we have decided to terminate the daily Healthcheck. Effective today, the Healthcheck link will be removed from our website.
Sincerely,
Dr. Jeff Ryan
