Tim Lockette grew up in the Angel community, west of Jacksonville. He has spent most of his career writing for newspapers and magazines, including The Anniston Star, The Gadsden Times, The Gainesville (Fla.) Sun and the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Teaching Tolerance. He has written three novels for young adults. His book Tell It True won the Whippoorwill Award in 2022 and was named a Junior Library Guild selection. In 2025, the American Library Association’s Rise Feminist Book Project listed Atty in Love among its suggested YA feminist reads.
