New Faculty Cohort Series : Fall 2024

Program Description and Goals

The New Faculty Cohort series is designed to provide meaningful resources and networking opportunities to new faculty members. Cohort meetings provide new faculty with a place to discuss topics relevant to first-year employment experiences in a collaborative, inclusive setting.

  • To facilitate a smooth transition into the role of faculty for all new faculty members
  • To create a welcoming and inclusive environment that fosters a sense of belonging for all new faculty
  • To promote institutional awareness and comprehensive understanding of the institutions mission, values and strategic goals
  • To provide new faculty members with opportunities to enhance their teaching effectiveness through customized training opportunities.
  • To introduce new faculty with various support services available on campus

What: Grab your JCard and head to Jack Hopper between 11:15 and 12:30 to enjoy lunch with your New Faculty Cohort colleagues. We will meet on Wednesday and Thursday this week to accommodate teaching schedules.

OSP Faculty Grant Support Lunch & Learn 

When: 11:30-1:00 Lunch Session

Where: 208 Self Hall

Who: All Interested Faculty 

Where: Join the Office of Sponsored Programs as they discuss grant support available to faculty, including the Faculty Research Grant opportunity, while enjoying lunch. *New Faculty are encouraged to attend.

Teaching Online? Find Support Here: Book Club Mtg 1: Interest Meeting

When: 2:30-3:30

Where: 217, Self Hall Lounge

Who: All Interested Faculty

What: In our first meeting, we will discuss the reasons for selecting Small Teaching Online and will share expectations of the Fall 2024 book club. Those who join the book club will receive a copy of Small Online Teaching. *Participation may be limited. New faculty are encouraged to join. Register for the rest of the sessions in the GAMECOCKTALES Book Club.

Offloading Canvas Content

When: 3:00pm - 3:30pm

Where: Teams

Who: New Faculty 

What: In this training, Online@JSU will show new faculty how to offload and save Canvas course content.  The guest speaker will be Dr. Chris Inman, Senior Instructional Designer.

 October 24

Digital Measures Training

When: 2:00pm - 2:45pm

Where: Self Hall 208

Who: New Faculty 

What: New Faculty are encouraged to attend this training to learn about Digital Measures, JSU’s online repository that helps faculty organize and report their teaching, service, and research activities.

During regular business hours, you will receive a calendar invite sent to your JSU Outlook email within two hours of registering for an event. Once you accept the invite, the event information will appear on your Microsoft Outlook Calendar. Calendar invites are manually updated by Brandy Roberts, so if you do not receive yours, please contact Brandy Roberts at broberts@jsu.edu for assistance.

While Faculty Commons encourages registration for On-Site Writing meetings, it is not a requirement to pre-register to attend meetings.
