Collaborate & Present: Real Strategies for Group Work in Online Courses

Presented by Dr. Laura Pitts, Assistant Professor, Literature Librarian, Houston Cole Library

Dr. Laura Pitts

Abstract: Group work and student presentations can be powerful tools for engagement and active learning—but translating them to a fully online environment comes with real challenges. Instructors often struggle with coordinating student schedules, ensuring equal participation, managing group dynamics, and assessing individual contributions. This interactive workshop will begin with practical examples of how group projects have been structured successfully in online courses, followed by a roundtable discussion where participants share their own strategies, obstacles, and insights. Together, we’ll explore effective ways to design collaborative assignments that are flexible, equitable, and meaningful in virtual settings. Participants will leave with a shared set of tools, creative ideas, and peer-informed best practices they can immediately apply to their own teaching.
