The School of Nursing provides a learning-centered community that facilitates evidence-based teaching and learning within professional undergraduate and graduate programs to develop culturally competent and ethical nurses prepared to engage within the global healthcare environment.

As professionals and educators, we do not provide answers. We provide experiences, environments, and expectations that allow learners to discover the answers. 

1. Experiences

Goal:

Provide learning experiences that connect learners with real-world knowledge, skills, and opportunities.

Nursing Objectives: 

1.1 Design problem-based learning experiences to foster real world application of knowledge, skills, and abilities.

1.2 Collaborate with clinical partners to facilitate real world experiences in innovative clinical settings. 

2. Environments 

Goal:

Create and provide new learning environments characterized by modern facilities, technological enhancements, active learning, and engaging instruction.

Nursing Objectives: 

2.1 Construct a culture of inquiry using patient care technologies, information systems, and communication devices to improve patient outcomes. 

2.2 Foster innovative and active learning environments to maximize student engagement. 

3. Expectations

Goal:

Promote and assess critical thinking, essential employability skills, diversity and inclusion, and successful degree completion in all learning experiences and environments.

Nursing Objectives:

3.1 Integrate evidence-based practice, clinical reasoning, interprofessional perspectives, and patient/family preferences in planning, implementing, and evaluating outcomes of care.

3.2 Facilitate an inclusive learning environment which promotes critical thinking and integration of crucial soft skills to promote employability.

Within The School of Nursing, we engage the campus, community, and region through mutual relationships and transformative experiences.

Nursing Objectives:

1.1 Formulate collaborative partnerships to implement quality improvement initiatives and educational projects to enhance patient outcomes.  

1.2. Enhance interprofessional relationships to provide transformative experiences to improve the quality of life for individuals, families, and communities. 

Reach

As a thriving learning community, the SON depends on a strong financial foundation based on diverse student enrollment, spirit of generosity, and a culture of accountability.

Goal:

Attract, enroll, and support undergraduate and graduate students with unique experiences from across the state, region, and globe.

1.1 Implement recruitment strategies to attract, retain, and support a diverse population of students.
